If you have been around the blog in the last few weeks then you know about a certain job shift situation in my life. If you are new here, I suggest you take a moment and catch up on all things me in the past few weeks! Long story short, I started a brand new job two weeks ago and it’s been crazy.

You know the Stefon skit from SNL? Well, this job has EVERYTHING: Technology, UI design work, Operations partnerships, Work Sessions, Traveling between 3 different offices…MTV’s Dan Cortes! Ok, the last one is an easter egg from SNL. However, let’s just say this…I’ve never been busier, I’ve never been such a sponge soaking up all of the information–I even took a nap one night AFTER work!

This new job has me feeling ALL sorts of accomplished and I’m truly enjoying this new path. It’s crazy to be working on such highly technical projects, interfacing in the digital space and then thinking to myself “But I went to school for Journalism?!” It goes back to the best piece of advice I ever received: It’s not what you know, it’s who you know…but kid when you get there, you better know something.

I catch myself apologizing for my lack of knowledge two weeks in but I have to remind myself of my accomplishments: I taught myself how to blog. I taught myself how to start a podcast. I’ve worked in the tech space for the last SIX years! I think we too often, cut ourselves down when we are feeling less than confident. If I’ve learned anything about myself, as I dive headfirst into the deep end of this new role, is that faking it until you make it really doesn’t sound like a bad mantra! In the end, don’t we always ‘make it’?

So each day I’m getting up (after like 457 different alarms going off, I don’t know if I’ll EVER be a morning person), making my bed, pouring myself a nice cold brew coffee and hitting play on my latest playlist. There’s something about finding new music that really gets me excited. There may or may not be a little dance party going on in my room as I curl my hair, pick out an outfit and do my make up.

Fun fact, I cannot listen to some podcasts while I’m getting ready because if they’re funny, chances are I’m crying my make up off as I’m applying it!
