Happy Friday, lovelies! I don’t know about you but I am ready for this weekend. On tap is a belated-birthday blowout at my favorite salon in all of Orlando, Salon Bontempo, dinner with a bunch of hilarious ladies tonight, seeing an old friend from college on Saturday and a Sunday Funday of Pilates to work off the birthday bloat! And while I am doing that, I know I’m going to need some serious good-mood music. I decided to update My Revamped Playlist over on Spotify and get some good tunes going for what I think is going to be a fun, relaxing and all-in-all great weekend. I wanted to share these songs with you ASAP so you, too, could roll the window down and enjoy the last beautiful day of March as we head on into April.
I know April is a short month but it’s a fun one because I get to celebrate one of my very best friend’s birthday who I cannot wait to spoil with tons of birthday goodies. I got the last of her gift the other day, and I know that she will think it’s the cat’s meow. Oh, is that a clue? We’ll never know…ok, we’ll know next week when she opens her gifts! So, with the Florida sun getting just a bit warmer I realized I couldn’t stop listening to some of my favorite country songs. Growing up I wasn’t a big fan of country music until I got to college. It was then that my friends, who were from smaller towns all across Pennsylvania, got me hooked on country music and by the end of college I was interning at our arena at Penn State, The Bryce Jordan Center, singing along to Jason Aldean and Rascal Flatts from the side of the stage!
Today, when I listen to country music on a blue-skied Florida day I am reminded of my blissful Spring/Summer my sophomore year. I was finishing up my first two years in Erie and preparing to transfer to University Park or as we called it ‘Main Campus’ to continue my degree in Journalism. However, it was those warm Erie nights with my then boyfriend, and a mix of our friends at someone’s house pretending we were fancy drinking Miller Lite and singing along to country music blasting on the radio that I remember the most.
I remember how the sunsets over Lake Erie always glowed the right shade of pink, how warm winds would circle in to signal that summer wasn’t too far away and the bonfire nights never had enough chairs but always enough laps to sit in. What I don’t remember is which residents were causing me the most trouble, or who copied an AIM conversation to show it to another sorority sister to talk shit or the weekends I was stuck in the Niagara Hall dorms on RA Duty and missing all the fun. Even now, I only remember the happy times and and look back a bit wistfully, maybe because I wish I were young again! Anyway, these are some of the songs we sang along to then and those that I sing along to now. Roll down the window, let the wind in your hair (unless you just got a blowout) and sing out!
