On any given day it’s hard for me to even know what kind of musical mood I’m going to be in. Do I have a big day that I need to get pumped for? Do I have to crush a handful of projects at my desk all day and need some chill music in the background? Am I feeling old school and listen to some jazz or big band? I never know; but I’m always listening to music, I can guarantee you that!
To say that my taste in music varies is a complete understatement. If you were to look at my Spotify you’d see some serious mixes; from my “I Love the 80s” playlist to the “Way Way Back” featuring hits by The Beach Boys, Righteous Brothers and others, to even a list of my favorite songs from South Africa. Growing up, my Dad was always playing music around the house and teaching us about the greats; it’s not uncommon for there to be multiple speakers on in our house, inside and out, with different Pandora stations playing. Sometimes, we don’t even turn on the TV because we’re all sitting around talking about and listening to music.
Last week, my Dad and I went for a quick eight-mile kayak in DeLeon Springs and using our waterproof speaker we kayaked out to some great tunes by Bad Company, Dire Straights, Kansas and more on my “Rock n’ Roll Jeopardy” playlist. I don’t know if he was more impressed that I didn’t lose my mind over the 15 gators we saw or that I had “Do You Feel Like We Do” from Frampton Comes Alive on the playlist. Either way, I was directed to share the playlist with him for his own future kayak trips!
However, as cool as that all may make me sound, at least I hope that made me sound cool, I have to be honest with you: The first concert I ever attended was Hanson. Oh yes, I hung my poster of those MmmBop boys on my wall next to my poster of Gavin Rossdale and the rest of the Bush gang. In case you were wondering, I was a Taylor girl and still stand by that decision to this day. So, it’s really no wonder that despite my claims of being an eclectic music listener, I’m a teeny bopper at heart. I love a good song that I can just let go and sing along to while driving down the road, or to the dismay of my roommate, sing at the top of my lungs in the shower. There isn’t a catchy rhythm and good beat that can’t get me pumped on a Monday morning. Lately, I have expanded my musical horizons and started to listen to some artists I wouldn’t normally click on, as well as doing daily prayers to Lorde and Lady Gaga’s latest tracks, which if you ask me…are some of the best pop songs on the radio right now.
So if you are in need of some new tunes to freshen up your playlists, or are just interested in some music that is really great to work out to. Turn it up, sing out and have fun!

Oh my gosh–we are pretty much the same person. I LOVE TAYLOR HANSON. I even wrote him a letter when I was younger listing all of my favorite things hoping he would love those things, and therefore, love me. I’m still waiting for a reply (*le sigh*). I am totally going to get into this playlist! Thanks for sharing!

Haha, I will fight you (and his wife) for Taylor! Seriously, why are we only just now realizing we are basically twins? 😀
