With a little extra time on my hands these days, I’ve finally found the perfect recipe for my own at home iced coffee with cold foam! Generally, I would pour my coffee into a cup, throw in a splash of whatever I had (half and half, maybe a flavored cream or almond milk), and keep on keeping on. But now, I have the morning to take my time and perfect my coffee.
Note: I do realize that during a typical 9-5 work week, I could have baked in a few extra minutes to make my coffee but I used those minutes for sleep instead! ๐
Since sharing that I like to add collagen to my morning coffee I thought I would give you the full breakdown of my new morning coffee routine:
The Coffee
I, Erika Jarvis, of sound mind and body prefer my coffee cold. Whether it’s a cold brew, iced coffee, or I throw a few espresso shots over ice, I genuinely feel the caffeine can hit my veins faster if it’s cold. Which is why I am so obsessed with my Toddy Cold Brew Pour-Over Coffee System. This system makes enough cold brew concentrate to keep you caffeinated for up to two weeks. Just follow the instructions to add water or your favorite milk-product to give yourself the right level of caffeine consistency.
You will need almost a full lb of coffee to make this cold brew, about 12 oz ground. I like to drink local at all levels, beer included, but I get my beans from Lucky Goat Coffee Co. out of Tallahassee. I generally text my brother an order when I know I’m going to see him and his wife, and they keep the family fully stocked with some of the best coffee in the state! No worries though, in Orlando there are tons of local joints to get your beans. These are my top three:
The ‘Milk’
We now have our cold brew ready to go after a 24-hour’ brew’ and we are good to go but we need milk! For me, I like to go almond milk. If you are feeling fancy I HIGHLY suggest checking out my post on how to make almond milk at home. It’s fun to make and it’s super delish without all of the processed ingredients generally found in almond milk in the grocery store.
However, if you’re feeling like the 24-hour process to make your own milk is a little extra than I recommend the following:
- Simply Almond Milk: this is a fav because it has two ingredients: Water and Almonds. You’d be so surprised how many ‘nut-milks’ have about 10 ingredients going for them.
- Almond Breeze: The classic, and maybe the first Almond Milk I ever tried. Big fan of the almond/coconut mix, too!
- Chobani: The maker of one of my fav Greek yogurts is getting in the milk game and even adding Oat Milk to their product line.
The Game Changer
Ok, we have our coffee and we have our milk and now as they say: we’re cooking with gas. I’m about to introduce you to the new love of your life. Oh, you’re married? Your spouse won’t mind another in the relationship. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls I introduce your new milk frother.
No, this isn’t your little handheld frother. That is a frother of the PAST! This appliance will sit out on your counter proudly telling everyone who visits “I can make hot OR cold foam for your coffee”.
Here’s the ish, you fill the frother up with your milk and hit the hot or cold setting. This is clearly why I fell so hard in love with this little thing, I can have delicious whipped foam on my iced coffee! Also, I can add in my collagen to the foam and have it mix in seamlessly. Because the hardest thing about adding any kind of powder to a cold beverage is that it just never dissolves quite right.
Foam consistency will depend on the milk that you use. After many test runs it was found that the Simply Almond milk makes the most incredible foam, so thick and luscious you could eat it with a spoon!
The End Product
We’ve got our coffee, we have our whipped/foamed milk and added in our morning collagen now…we make the coffee! I like to grab a nice, big cup, one would call it a Venti. I add my ice, my cold brew concentrate + water, then pour the velvety foam over top and voilร : My revamped iced coffee!
Now it’s time take my coffee poolside, grab my laptop and get to writing.
I hope you are able to add a little extra bounce/foam to your morning with this new frother and maybe can even sneak in some extra protein/collagen to your morning coffee as well!
