I think it’s pretty obvious here at My Revamped Life that this is a place to come for career advice, owning your amazingness, profiles on empowering women and a great playlist every few months. Recently, I found another blogger/CEO/Business Owner who has been doing the same thing times a BAJILLION! I’m talking about Anna Wood from Brains Over Blonde! Anna has created a space where women don’t have to choose between being female and success because you can have both and in fact, you SHOULD have both.
I am so happy that I came across Anna’s awesome Instagram a few weeks ago and I’ve been quietly lurking and stalking old posts, reading her blog every chance that I can because I am loving learning from her. When I read her Insta bio I knew I had found another soul sister out there because as Anna puts it she’s “Not bossy, not a “girlboss,” just a boss”. GUYS, I’m dead. This is my mantra for life! Anna really knows what she is talking about, too, as an MBS graduate of Stanford (honestly, how smart is she?) and with real-life experience at Google, this blondie is NO dummy.
When I read other bloggers give advice on how to kick butt, be a boss, etc I often find that they are not living the same life as me. I have a 9-5 in a corporate world and don’t have the time in the morning for meditation, writing down what I’m grateful for, working out, time-blocking and more. Mama has morning calls starting in the 8 o’clock hour and sometimes I have enough time to grab a hardboiled egg and run out the door. Sure, I could wake up at 5 a.m. but honestly, I know who I am and that is not going to happen.
So, when I’m at Brains Over Blonde, I just feel like I’m talking to someone who just gets IT. What I am truly gravitating towards the most is her #FlexYourFemale challenge/hashtag/lifestyle. This is going to sound harder to you than getting up at 5 a.m., working out, meditating and more…it’s where you confidently, and proudly talk about your accomplishments. Crazy, huh? Any man reading that would honestly not understand the difficulty that women face when they are proud of themselves and share that with others. Women who discuss things like a well-deserved promotion, or a crushing a presentation to a client, scoring a new branding deal and more…are labeled as braggy. But, and you know this but is coming…if a man were to do the same thing he would be regarded in a way that would make THIS blondie want to scream her head off!
I once received feedback in an interview that I was ‘overly confident to the point of cockiness and arrogance’ because I was proud of my work and portfolio. Now, if you don’t think that hasn’t sat in my head for over ten years then you’d be wrong. That piece of feedback fueled me for years, and it always ramps me up when I think about it (like now!). I ended up working for that same woman later in my career and she continued to cut me down for things that I should not feel bad for. She told me that I typed too fast and that made others in the office feel self-conscious about THEIR skills. Um, ok well then I’m sorry for them but my mom had me doing typing programs on the computer since I was a kid and I wasn’t going to feel bad for that. (Small shout out to Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing.) I was too fast, I thought too quickly, I was too creative…I was too too too. You see how this was great for my mental health right?
These are not things to feel bad about, these are not accomplishments that I shouldn’t be proud of but yet, in fact, shout from the rooftop. Which is why starting today, Saturday, Sept 1 I’m officially joining the #FlexYourFemale challenge and I want you to join me. No better day than the start of a new month to start a new lifestyle. Let’s every day be proud of ourselves and not let others make us feel bad about that with negative and hurtful words like “braggy” “boastful” “rude” etc. Every day, let’s not let others take credit for our work, our ideas and more. Tag your friends on insta, talk about this over happy hour, at the gym and more…we must continue to make empowering other women a daily task in our lives. Add it to your planner to celebrate other women, their successes, their accomplishments and more because together we truly are unstoppable and honestly, really really rad.
Oh, and don’t worry…Anna, I’m coming for you. You are the definition of “She’s a Boss” and I cannot wait to continue to learn more about you and from you and share it with the gang here at My Revamped Life.

Love love love this 1000 times over! So over being made to feel selfish or braggy for being proud of achievements. I wonder how many millions of women have allowed themselves to be held back because of this stigma.
