2017 is coming to a close very quickly and I would say that this has been “The Year of The Podcast” for me. Not only did I become beaucoup obsessed with listening to podcasts but I even started MY OWN with my best friend! (I mean we’re in iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play and more and if you left a 5-star review and comment I wouldn’t HATE it.) HA! So as you can imagine my week can get a bit full with thinking about posts for My Revamped Life, listening to podcasts, doing the ol’ 9-5 thing and oh yeah…seeing my friends and family!
As Amie and I plan what our show will look like during the week, we try to think of what podcasts will be fun for the listeners to listen to, or what will be surprising to hear or what can we recap that will help start a conversation. So because of that, and because we don’t want to make the podcast 50 hours long, I can’t always get to some of my absolute favorites.
I made a promise on my Instagram the other day to kick MORE ass and take MORE names in 2018 in the workplace and in my creative endeavors (blog/podcast). So with that, I plan on adding more Boss-like podcasts to that list. As you know, and as I’ve shared a lot here at MRL I’m not a fan of the phrase ‘GirlBoss’; I don’t want to use it, and I refuse to. We are creatives, leaders, friends, business owners and more…we just happen to be women. Also, with that being said, I’m also going to strip away the ‘Bitch’, too. While I love saying “Hey, Bitch!” to my best friends and it becomes a weird term of endearment, it can confuse people, too. How can we say Bitch to our best friend and mean it positively and then in the same sentence use it to hurt others? So, while I may use it from time to time, because I do love a good swear word as an emphasis, I’m going to reference us all as Bosses, not Girl Bosses, not Boss Bitches but…just, Bosses.
So, let’s plug-in, turn on and listen to some real Boss-like podcasts and make 2018 our Bitch…oh shit, I already messed up didn’t I?! Ha, oh, well…ENJOY!
The Influencer Podcast:Β Hosted by Julie Solomon, this podcast takes Julie’s experience in PR and background in journalism, mashes it together and provides you an hour of quality content all about how to take you, and your brand to the next level. Julie interviews entrepreneurs, influencers, branding strategists and more; together they discuss how they were able to find their niche and place in the Influencer world. Learn their secrets and meet new ladies from whom you can take away a few tidbits and apply it to the office or your side hustle. Some notable episodes include Caitlin Crosby from The Giving Keys, Kaitlyn Bristowe (ABC’s The Bachelorette) and yes, of course, Lauryn Evarts from The Skinny Confidential.
Style Your Mind:Β This podcast comes from Cara Alwill Leyba, a staple on my Instagram feed and you need to follow her STAT. You can find her at The Champagne Diet and you can also sit and think for a second about how that is the GREATEST INSTAGRAM NAME OF ALL TIME!!! Cara’s podcast is a lot like her Insta-feed, it’s full of inspiration, badassery and motivation to help you elevate your thinking and transform your life. Also, you know that little ‘save’ icon you hit on Instagram photos? I think I have done this with oh, just about every photo of Cara’s. Notable learnings from Style Your Mind include learning how to KNOW your worth, how to stop hating your body and get motivated and Babe Chats with some awesome women. Go forth, listen and drink some champs!
Being Boss:Β Hosts, Emily and Kathleen, don’t just have a podcast about what it means to ‘being boss’ but they have created a community filled withΒ like-minded women who can come together to celebrate their diversity, similarities and overarching goals of being boss. If you’re looking for a podcast where the hosts ditch the bullshit and get to brass tacks on what it means to own your own business, be in business, and to know who you are to the core and own each and every inch of it then you must subscribe to this podcast ASAP. Bossy Notables include hearing from Kelsey Murphy of Whiskey & Work, learning how to niche down and overall inspiration and a personal favorite of mine: how to happy hour like a boss!
The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast: Guys, you didn’t actually think I’d get through some of my top podcasts about bossing up your life without mentioning Lauryn Evarts did you? As Lauryn says every podcast, their goal is to serve you some ‘major realness’ and from my latest ‘She’s a Boss‘ post you know, Lauryn is nothing if not real. What I love the most about this podcast is how Lauryn pays attention to how her community responds to her social media and turns THAT into a podcast. After posting on Snap and Insta all about her favorite fiber-filled crackers she did an entire podcast about fiber and why it is SO important to a healthy lifestyle. Lauryn, along with her husband have flown around the country and introduced me and her listeners to some of the most amazing influencers, showcased OTHER podcasts and worked hard to craft shows that will be valuable to your life in a multitude of ways: health, nutrition, branding/marketing, entertainment, lifestyle and so much more. Some of my absolute favorite shows include them interviewing branding guru Gary Vee, anytime they have on Jackie Schimmel from The Bitch Bible, Jaclyn Johnson from Create & Cultivate and yes, of course, F-Factor with Tanya Zuckerbrot.
Ok, these are just a few of my favorite ‘Boss’ podcasts that I just had to get your way before the year ends. Promise me that you’ll try to listen to at least one podcast from each show, that’s only four hours…you can totally crush that! And pinky swear that you’ll drop me a note in the comments, or shoot me an email at erika@myrevampedlife.com and tell me about your favorite podcasts and what I should add to my playlist?
Hope you’re all ending 2017 on the highest of high notes. Thank you for an amazing year of My Revamped Life!
