If you’re like me you’ve lost track of the day, month, and well I don’t think we’ll ever forget this year. However, as insane as the last months have been my favorite quote has never mattered more “The only reason matters is because it never lets us down.” Well, my friends, music, and the arts are the things getting us through 2020…that and science and masks.
Actually, I think the biggest surprise of the summer of 2020, other than the fact that it is almost over is that Taylor Swift dropped a folk-rock album, folklore, and my Swiftie/Mumford/Indie heart couldn’t be happier. I have no record or proof but I have told many a people that I thought that TayTay should drop a folk album because nothing would show off her lyrics better than a beautifully haunting melody. So, Taylor wherever you are, thank you for your support of me and my musical requests.
I know that at the start of “The Q” I was so active and was promising newsletters and more coverage of women (and men) who I think are a boss but then something got in the way. I think we are all feeling the loss of our lives as COVID-19 continues to be rampant through the States and mine especially. Here in Florida, it’s a daily occurrence to see someone shouting on the internet how masks are an infringement on their ‘rights’. Do you ever wonder what grade people got in their US Government classes when they say things like that? Do they understand what rights are? Did they go to class? No, but for real did they?
I have had both friends and family who have all played it as safe as humanly possible these past few months and yet still walk away with the virus. Everyone is ok and healthy, minus a few friends whose smell/taste is still altered. It’s a scary time, and these past few months have taught me so much. I wanted to share a few of these to do’s that work for me with you! For one, plan and stick to a budget!
August To Do: Review and Update Your Budget
I can’t recommend You Need a Budget more, honestly. At the start of furlough, my money was all over the place and I wasn’t paying enough attention to it. And well, where attention goes energy flows right? And so because I wasn’t paying attention to my money I lost track of it. Full transparency: You don’t want to go into one of the worst pandemics the world, and the economy has ever seen with your money askew.
You Need a Budget will help walk you through your money, how to manage it, and how to set up tiny budgets within your account to plan for things like Christmas presents. You can even hop into webinars and watch videos from people your age who have been there and got back on track with their money. This site has been a game-changer, my money is back where I want it, in my bank account and 100% accounted for. If you’re looking for a new way to count your pennies, I couldn’t recommend this app enough! Sign up to get a month free!
August To Do: Snail Mail Your Friends!
I also started pen-palling with some friends this summer and sent a few “I miss you, and I’m so happy we are friends” cards across the country. Our friends at the United States Postal System need our help and our stamps. There is no better time to drop your favorite aunt a little card to say “Hi!” I think the best thing that the USPS does is, if you sign up for it, send you an email every morning with a scan of all the mail you’re receiving that day. It’s my favorite email of the day! This is a cool tool to use when you’re sending cards to friends and family.
August To Do: Make a Playlist for Your Friends
Also, another great thing to do is to share music with your friends this summer. I would say a couple of times a week I’m sending links to a song I just found that I think a friend would love. Or my buddy from high school and I will make each other a playlist to keep each other up to date on our current faves. Either way, share your jams with your friends and pass around the good music.
Which, friends, brings us to why we are here! I made YOU a little playlist for August to remind you of a few things thanks to our friends at The Every Girl and their adorable tech backgrounds!
I can’t promise that I could ever put my phone away for an entire weekend but lord knows I could make a playlist for my friends. So please, plugin, turn up, and dance around in your room or in your car. Stay safe, wear your mask, know I love you and think you’re doing amazing. And no judgment for the three Taylor Swift songs on this playlist, I couldn’t choose just one! ๐๐
